Research

Research Interest:

Shoujin's research investigates novel data mining and machine learning techniques and their applications, with a research theme focused on user behavior analysis and modelling, recommender systems, fake news mitigation. His long-term goal is to design intelligent and reliable recommender systems to provide trustworthy and responsible recommendation services to end users in the complex cyber space which is full of threat from noise, bias, attacks, etc. The outcomes are expected to facilitate the development of the digital economy and sustainable society. Some of his focused research topics include:

(1). User behavior modeling & Recommender systems

(2). Multi-modal machine learning & learning from time series data

(3). Disinformation detection and mitigation, e.g., fake news mitigation, machine generated content detection

(4). Trustworthy AI (e.g., Robustness, Privacy preserving, Fairness, etc.) & Generative AI (e.g., generative models, LLM)

(5). Data science innovations for addressing real-world challenges in multiple sectors, e.g., education, finance, agriculture, etc.


Research Supervision:

Shoujin supervises Ph.D, Master by Research (MRes) students and honor's students as a principal supervisor or co-supervisor internally and externally.

  3. Mr Zhufeng Shao, Master by research student at Qilu University of Technology, session-based recommendation, since 2021.05, published two papers: IEEE DSAA 2022 (Best Student Paper Award), ICASSP 2023. Now a Ph.D student in Shanxi University, China.

  4. Dr Yan Zhao, Ph.D student in computer science at Macquarie University, from HIT, streming recommender systems, co-supervised with Prof. Yan Wang, 2019.02 -- 2021.02. Published three papers, WISE (2020), Applied Intelligence (2020), Information Science (2022).

  5. Dr Wenzhuo Song, visiting Ph.D student from Jilin Univeristy, session-based recommender systems, co-supervised with Prof. Yan Wang, 2019.10-2020.10. Published two papers: RecSys (2021), WWW (2023).
